Advice from the Talmud

According to the Talmud (the great compilation of Jewish learning comprising the written and oral law, and detailed explanations and commentaries upon them, including differences of opinion), a person should do three things for posterity:

1. Plant a tree
2. Have a child
3. Write a book

What do you think of this advice?

  1. Wow! I definitely agree. Those three parts cover what I think any generation should pass on to the next. First of all, there needs to be a generation to pass ANYTHING onto, so that's #2. Secondly, the next generation needs someplace healthy & beautiful to live in, so that's #1. And lastly, #3...well, that new generation needs to know all the knowledge that we've gathered over the years!

This is such wonderful insight, Miss Robyn. I'm not Jewish, you see, so I'm really intrigued by these lovely tidbits that I'm not exposed to anywhere else. :)

  2. Thanks, Lila. I'll try to think of a few more to share. And I feel enormously priveleged that I have done all three.
